Atonement: to atone is to suffer the penalty for sins, thereby removing the effects of sin from the repentant sinner and allowing him or her to be reconciled to God. Jesus Christ was the only one capable of carrying out the Atonement for all mankind. Because of His Atonement, all people will be resurrected, and those who obey His gospel will receive the gift of eternal life with God
Covenant: an agreement between God and man, an accord whose terms are set by God (see Bible Dictionary, “Covenant,” 651). In these divine agreements, God binds Himself to sustain, sanctify, and exalt us in return for our commitment to serve Him and keep His commandments.
Eternal Life/Exaltation: Eternal life is the phrase used in scripture to define the quality of life that our Eternal Father lives; to live in God's presence and to continue as families
Gospel of Jesus Christ: The gospel is our Heavenly Father's plan of happiness; The first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost
Immortality: to live forever as a resurrected being
Ordinances: sacred rituals that God has ordained for us to manifest our commitment (i.e. baptism, temple marriage)
Plan of Salvation/Happiness: a plan that, if followed, provides comfort and guidance now, as well as salvation and eternal happiness in our postmortal life
Premortal Existence: Our life before we were born on this earth. In our pre-earth life, we lived in the presence of our Heavenly Father as His spirit children. We did not have a physical body.
